OCAMPO AND KONATE EARN CCAA ACADEMIC ALL-CANADIAN AWARD

OCAMPO AND KONATE EARN CCAA ACADEMIC ALL-CANADIAN AWARD

George Brown Husky basketball players Robert Ocampo and Mariam Konate are recipients of the 2021-2022 CCAA Academic All-Canadian award.

This is a first-time achievement for both Ocampo and Konate. The pair are two of 229 student-athletes across the country that achieved combined excellence in collegiate athletics and academics.

Since coming to George Brown College in 2018, Ocampo has been a staple for the Huskies men’s basketball program. The fourth-year guard saw an increased workload this past season, and he showed that he could handle it with a career year in every category. The Business Administration student played 28.6 minutes a game while averaging 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He impacted the game in every way imaginable on the court and is a massive reason why the Huskies didn’t miss a beat since their championship run in 2020. For that, he was named an East Division Second-Team All-Star for the first time in his career.

In her first season, Konate was a dominant player and was instrumental for the team. The veteran point guard was recognized for her standout season by being named an OCAA East Division second-team All-Star. She averaged a team-high 13 points while adding 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.3 assists. The General Arts and Science student started all eight games and hit double-digit points in six of the eight contests.

The CCAA Academic All-Canadian award, presented by Brandew Athlete, is the CCAA's most prestigious student-athlete honour, epitomizing a commitment of academic success and athletic achievement.
