HUSKIES ADD HINCKSON JR. TO ROSTER

HUSKIES ADD HINCKSON JR. TO ROSTER

The George Brown College Men's Basketball program is pleased to announce the addition of Julian Hinckson Jr. to the Huskies 2021-22 roster.

"We’re excited to add Julian to our program when the season tips," said head coach Jason Dawkins. "He's a high character individual who will have a positive impact on the overall culture of the George Brown Men’s Basketball program. We have high expectations for him on the court and in the classroom."

The forward transferred from Durham College after spending three years playing for the Lords between 2016-19. He started 35 of the 59 games and averaged 11.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game during his career there. The Ajax, Ont., native made his name known in his final season with the Lords in 2018-19. He averaged a career-high 13.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks per game and helped the team finish in third place in the East Division with a 14-6 record. He was named an OCAA East Division First-Team All-Star for his efforts.

The Huskies believe Hinckson Jr. is a great fit for the program and will only help them continue their recent success.

“The expectations are high for Julian this up-and-coming season. He is no stranger to OCAA,” said assistant coach Marlon Greene. “We expect him to keep that up, but make it a double-double. Julian brings to the Huskies his experience, willingness to learn, and tough mentality. Off the floor, Julian is soft-spoken and dedicated to his education. These characteristics are what makes Julian a great fit for the George Brown Huskies Program.”

His physical play, rebounding abilities, and relentless energy will be a perfect addition to the squad, notably to fill the void left by OCAA All-Star Kingslee D’Silva. He is excited for the opportunity to put on the Huskies jersey.

“I can not wait to represent the Huskies on the court,” Hinckson Jr. explained. “I decided to transfer to George Brown because I felt they had a lot to offer me as a basketball player and a student. I could continue to grow as an individual and put myself in a position to succeed after basketball."

The forward is coming into a high-caliber Huskies team. The last time the program played a season, they finished first in the East Division with a 17-3 record and claimed the program’s first OCAA Provincial Championship since 1976, while also qualifying for the CCAA National Championship. The team plans to build off that success heading into a possible 2021-22 season.

“I can definitely bring a great work ethic and leadership to this team. During my time at Durham, I won the team leadership award two years in a row,” he explained. “I think those two attributes will help myself and team reach the ultimate goal of repeating as Provincial Champions.”

The forward has been enrolled in the Pre-Business program at George Brown College since September of 2020. He is on track to finish that program in the Fall and plans on enrolling in the Pre-Community Services program afterwards.
