The men’s indoor soccer team went undefeated to win the GBC Invitational for the third straight season on Friday (Jan. 31) afternoon. The women’s indoor soccer team qualified for the semifinals at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
The men began their journey bright and early with a match against Lakehead Orillia. The Huskies got off to a slow start, allowing the opening goal just a few minutes into the match. The team bounced back with two goals from Daniel Parisotto to secure a 2-1 victory. They followed it up with back-to-back 1-0 wins against Centennial and Fanshawe, finishing first in their group.
In the semifinals, they defeated St. Clair 2-1 thanks to goals from Yonis Jama and Sebastian Lopez, setting up a rematch with Fanshawe in the finals. Similar to the semifinals, Jama and Lopez found the back of the net, leading the Huskies to a 2-1 championship victory over Fanshawe.
The women played exceptionally well defensively, led by goalkeeper Yazmeen Jamieson. They opened the tournament with 1-0 victories in their first two matches against Lakehead Orillia and Fanshawe. After a 1-0 loss to Centennial, they finished second in their group and advanced to the semifinals against St. Clair. Unfortunately, they fell to the Saints by a score of 1-0. Alyssa Budhoo and Iman Bhanji scored the team’s goals during the tournament.
UP NEXT: The teams return to action at the Sheridan Invitational on Wednesday, February 12, at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
