HUSKIES ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS AT PROVINCIALS

The men's indoor soccer team is off to the semi-finals at the Provincial Championships for the second straight season after finishing first in their pool with a 3-0 record at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Thursday (Mar. 6) afternoon.

Match 1: George Brown 3, Centennial 1
The Huskies got off to a fast start, thanks to Yonis Jama. The fifth-year striker tallied two goals in the opening 20 minutes, giving the team a 2-0 advantage at halftime. Centennial cut the deficit in half within the first five minutes of the second half and continued to press for the equalizer, but the Huskies held them off. Jama then completed his hat-trick in the final seconds of the match.

Match 2: George Brown 4, Conestoga 2
The next match was a rematch of last year's Provincial semi-finals, where Conestoga won. This time, George Brown was determined to flip the script. Sebastian Lopez opened the scoring with an absolute snipe from distance. The Huskies kept the pressure on and soon capitalized on a power play, scoring twice through Hakeem Bailey and Mark Do Coito to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Conestoga responded with a penalty shot just before halftime to make it 3-1. They built off that momentum by scoring early in the second half to close the gap to 3-2. However, for the second straight match, the Huskies defence stood firm. Late in the game, Abubakar Hussein sealed the win with an incredible individual effort.

Match 3: George Brown 1, Sheridan 0
In their final round-robin match, the Huskies relied heavily on their bench. The game remained scoreless until the final eight minutes when the team executed a perfect tic-tac-toe play involving Lopez, Bailey, and the goal scorer, Eisrom Ghebretensae. George Brown's defence then locked down the match the rest of the way to secure the win.
