George Brown Men's Soccer (4-0-1) came away with two victories on the road this past weekend as their push to return to the national championship tournament for a second year in a row continues. It started with a 7-0 shutout victory over the Sault College Cougars (0-6), followed by a nail biting 3-2 finish in Sudbury versus Cambrian College (0-5-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED - SAULT: The Huskies came out ready to play on Saturday (Sept. 24) against the Cougars. The visiting squad was calm and composed, waiting for their opportunities to capitalize. Once they found the back of the net the first time in the 23rd minute off of the foot of Mashood Rehman, a flurry of goals followed over the next ten. Adding to the scorecount during that period were defender Abubaker Hussein (2nd Year), and midfielders Ethan Hunter (1st Year) and Mark Do Coito (2nd Year). Do Coito scored, once again on what has come to be known as one of his staple headers, off a long cross into the box from the right wing. It marked his fifth goal of the season, where he has scored at least one in each match. Jo-Horus Toutou would close out the half with one of his own, putting the Huskies up 5-0 at halftime.

The Cougars had no answer to the high powered Huskies offence, giving up 15 shots on goal in the first half while only recording one of their own.

George Brown pulled away even further in the second half, with rookie Renato Freitas scoring his first goal of the season in the 68th minute and Do Coito making no mistake on a penalty shot in the 72nd minute. The midfielder now has six goals in five games, putting him 3rd in the league in goals and points. The Huskies would come away from Sault St. Marie with a 7-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED - CAMBRIAN: On Sunday September 25th George Brown continued its long road trip, visiting the Cambrian Golden Shield in Sudbury. The Huskies came out sluggish, and conceded the opening goal to the Shield in the 16th minute off the boot of #19 Adrian Josephs. In the 28th and 29th minutes, the visitors would turn the tables scoring two back-to-back goals. The first goal coming from Tiago De Jesus (3rd Year) and the second courtesy of Ethan Hunter, the rookie's second of the weekend. George Brown thought they would take a 2-1 lead into halftime, but Cambrian connected with the back of the next in the dying seconds of the half on a goal by Richard Njoku evening the score to 2-2.

And that is the way things would stay until the 90th minute, when on a broken scrambling play in front of Cambrian's net Huskies defender De Jesus found himself in the right place at the right time to tap the ball in past the keeper to give the Huskies the go-ahead goal. The narrow 3-2 win keeps George Brown undefeated on the season with a record of 4-0-1.

UP NEXT: In a rematch from a few weeks prior, the Huskies will face the Algonquin Wolves (5-1) at Esther Shiner Stadium this Friday September 30th. The Huskies handed the Wolves their only loss of the season by a score of 1-0 on September 14th in Ottawa. Kick off is scheduled for 3pm. Can't make it in person?
