KNEZEVIC EARNS OCAA ACADEMIC ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE AWARD

KNEZEVIC EARNS OCAA ACADEMIC ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE AWARD

George Brown Huskies men’s soccer player Steve Knezevic is a recipient of the 2021-2022 OCAA Academic Athletic Excellence award.

The award goes to a student-athlete in a non-CCAA sport (indoor soccer) who achieves an all-star award in their respected sport and excellence in academics. This marks the first-time Knezevic has earned this award.

After an impressive outdoor soccer season, where the midfielder and captain led the Huskies to their first OCAA silver medal since 2007 and the program’s first-ever berth at the CCAA National Soccer Championships, he didn’t miss a beat during the indoor soccer season.

At the OCAA Regionals, Knezevic posted a team-high four goals, and the Huskies went undefeated while outscoring their opponents 13-0 at Regionals to advance to the OCAA Provincial Championships. He followed up on that performance. At the OCAA Provincial Championships, the second-year midfielder continued his impressive. It seemed he had the ball at his feet, controlling the match's pace. His vision and playmaking abilities were on full display. That led to the team finishing in fourth place in the province. His efforts didn't go unnoticed as he was named an OCAA men's indoor championship All-Star, his first OCAA all-star of his career. Check out the full list of OCAA All-Academic Award recipients.

This wraps an awe-inspiring overall season for Knezevic, to say the least. Individually, he earned Team MVP honours for indoor and outdoor soccer, won the GBC athletics department Alex Barbier Award and was nominated for the Huskies Male Athlete of the Year award.
