ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

After playing key roles in the Huskies advancing to the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championships, men’s indoor soccer midfielder Steve Knezevic and women's indoor soccer midfielder Jennifer Seguin have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week for the period ending March 13th.

At the OCAA Regionals, the Huskies first indoor soccer tournament, Knezevic was outstanding. In the team’s three matches, the second-year midfielder posted a team-high four goals to help the Huskies go undefeated and finish first in their pool. He also played a pivotal role in George Brown outscoring their opponents 13-0 to advance to the OCAA Provincial Championships on March 30th-31st.

Knezevic didn’t find the back of the net in the team’s first match against the St. Lawrence Surge, but in the next match versus the Laurier Golden Hawks, he didn’t disappoint. He recorded a hat-trick in the Huskies 6-0 victory and finished Regionals with another marker in the 5-0 win over the Redeemer Royals.

Seguin was huge in the Huskies finishing second in their pool at Regionals and advancing to the OCAA Provincial Championships. She posted a team-high two goals throughout the three matches and added stellar defensive.

She couldn’t get on the scoresheet in the Huskies 1-1 draw with the Sheridan Bruins in the opening match but made her presence felt in the following game against the Sault Cougars. Less than two minutes in and after setting up Angela Diaz Romero to open the scoring, she registered two goals to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead at the half. The team went on to win the match 6-1. With a 0-0 draw with the St. Clair Saints, the team booked their ticket to the George Brown hosted Provincials.
