Huskies Men's Soccer (7-2-1) celebrated their graduating student-athletes on Sunday afternoon (Oct 16) with a 5-0 win over the Sault College Cougars (0-10). See full bios of the graduating athletes who were honored pre-game at the end of the article.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After a narrow 3-2 loss to the undefeated Seneca Sting the previous weekend, George Brown was looking to shift their momentum going into the playoffs with a win over the Sault Cougars in their last regular season game. They did not disappoint the home crowd as they blanked the opposition, coming away with a 5-0 win to close the season.

The Huskies opened the scoring early on in the 4th minute on a Yonis Jama (3rd Year) goal from Mashhood Rehman (3rd Year), who collected his team-leading sixth assist of the season and tying him for 3rd in the OCAA.

The goals remained consistent from there, with Rehman tallying his own in the 18th minute on an assist from Jama and Jesse Codron (1st Year) scoring his first career goal in the 42nd minute, unassisted. The team's fourth goal would come off a brilliant free kick strike from graduating Husky Max Jordan in the 72nd minute, while captain Mark DoCoito (2nd Year) would close things off in the final few minutes with one of his own for a final score of 5-0 in favor of George Brown. It marked his seventh goal of the 2022-23 campaign.

UP NEXT: The win secured Men's Soccer the second seed in the OCAA East Division standings heading into the playoff crossover matches next weekend. George Brown will therefore host the 7th place Lambton Lions (3-7) at 7pm on Saturday October 22, 2022 at Esther Shiner Stadium.

GRADUATING STUDENTS

George Brown College Athletics and Recreation would like to thank our graduating students for their commitment to the team over their Huskies careers. Our 2022-23 graduating Men's Soccer student-athletes are:

Adrian Arcuri | #20

Adrian joined the Huskies program late in the 2022 season. He was originally recruited to suit up for George Brown in 2019 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was unable to join the team. On behalf of the coaching staff, we are pleased that Adrian decided to join the Husky family and we would like to thank him for his efforts and we wish him well when he graduates from the Construction Engineering Technician program this Spring.

Max Jordan | #17

Max first began his Huskies career as a redshirt player eventually working himself on to the starting roster where his impact on defence was felt. Coach Williams often refers to Max as a "silent assassin" for his quiet calm approach to the game that empowers him to get the job done. He was also part of the 2021 provincial silver medal team. In his two seasons with the team, he played in 15 games, starting in 13 where he collected an assist.

Jordan is on track to graduate from the Business Marketing advanced diploma program.

Alon Steinbach | #10

Alon joined the Husky family 2021 and his impact was immediately felt. Adjusting to the North American game was not easy for him, but he persevered, allowing his natural talent to flourish and shine through. Alon was also part of the first Men's Outdoor Soccer team to attend the National Competition in 2021, after winning and OCAA provincial silver medal.

In his two seasons with the Huskies, Steinbach played in 14 games getting the start in 12 where he collected 4 assists. He will be graduating from the Business diploma program this Spring.

Mashhood Rehman | #13

From the moment Mashhood (known by his teammates as Mash) stepped onto the pitch his contribution to the team was felt. Mash is also a committed student who is passionate about his academics and his field of study.

One of coach Williams' fondest memories of Rehman was during Nationals last year, when he was substituted in late in the game and shortly after, in extra time, dribbled skillfully past an opposing player before unleashing a bullet of a shot to tie the game. A game the Huskies would later win 4-3 in a shootout to move them on to the next round. It was undoubtedly one of the biggest goals in the program's history.

In his three years with the team, Rehman has played in 14 games, has scored two goals along with collecting 5 assists. He will be graduating from the Honours Bachelor of Technology Construction Management degree.

Tiago De Jesus | #4

Tiago began his career with the Huskies in 2019 and was instrumental in the team's outdoor soccer OCAA silver medal in 2021. As a key component to the teams backline, coach Williams can rely on and count on De Jesus to execute game in and game out as a senior. In his three years with the team, the 6'1 defenceman has played in 21 games, and currently has 4 points on 2 goals scored in 2022.

De Jesus will be graduating this Spring from the Construction Engineering Technology advanced diploma program.
