HUSKIES SOCCER LOOK TO AVENGE EXHIBITION LOSS TO NIAGARA

On Saturday October 22 2022, the George Brown Men's Soccer team (7-2-1) will host the Niagara Knights (3-7) in a playoff crossover match that will see the winner earn a spot to play in the 2022 OCAA Men's Soccer Championship hosted by Humber College from October 26-29. This will also mark the Huskies run at another OCAA medal and National Championship birth after finishing the 2021-22 season with a silver medal, earning the CCAA Wildcard.

To start the 2022-23 pre-season, George Brown played Niagara to a 3-2 exhibition loss and are looking to avenge that loss and defend home field. The Knights enter this game after losing their final regular season match against Conestoga College by a score of 5-1. In their 10 regular season games, the Knights have scored 5 goals while having a goals against average of 5.04.

The Huskies are entering this match after a dominating performance in their final home game, a victory against the Sault College Cougars by a score of 5-0. On the season, the Huskies were not short on firepower. George Brown scored 29 goals, averaging 16.3 shots and 2.90 goals per game. On the flip side, in their 10 regular season contests, the Huskies have a goal against average of only 1.04.

Huskies head coach John Williams is confident about the upcoming rematch. "We are looking forward to this match-up and possibly beating them when it counts.", said Williams. "Our team is healthy on both ends of the field and we are looking to get out to an early strong start, putting pressure on them to make mistakes."

George Brown will play their East/West playoff crossover match at Esther Shiner Stadium at 7pm tonight (Oct 22). The game can also be watched live on our Huskies Livestream Channel.

Mark Do Coito | #8

The second-year midfielder has played in nine games this season scoring seven goals collecting 14 points. The team captain is a vocal leader for the Huskies and is a threat on both sides of the ball.

 

Yonis Jama | #9

The third-year striker has played in eight games this season for the Huskies, where he scored five goals, collected two assists, amassing 12 points for George Brown. His speed and agility will be a great advantage for the Huskies as they make their playoff push.

 

Jason Alvarado | #15

The Huskies third-year midfielder and offensive spark has played in all 10 games. He has scored one goal with one assist, collecting 3 points from his midfield position. Alvarado's European professional playing experience since 2020 will undoubtedly give him an edge in this must-win game.
