2024-25 NOMINEES: FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

The department will highlight the nominees of the Huskies major awards - Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Female Rookie of the Year, Male Rookie of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and Male Athlete of the Year - during the week leading up to the 55th Annual George Brown College Athletic Awards on Friday, April 4th at the Glenn Gould Studio.

Here are the nominees for the 2024-25 Female Athlete of the Year.

Yazmeen Jamieson, Women’s Soccer
The fourth-year goalkeeper was the backbone of the team and a perfect leader on the pitch. She played the most minutes of any goalkeeper in the province while ranking second in total shutouts (4), sixth in saves (54), and 12th in goals against average (1.50). She was awarded East Division First Team All-Star honours for her excellent campaign. It was no different during the indoor season. At Regionals, Jamieson did all she could allowing more than one goal once in fourth matches, including two shutouts, but the team missed advancing to the Provincial Championships by a single point.

Claire Ramos, Women’s Volleyball
Ramos was one of the best defensive players in the OCAA for the second straight season. She ranked third in digs per set (4.27) and fourth in total digs (239). Her relentless energy and uplifting attitude have made a lasting impact at George Brown, showing she was the perfect fit from the start. Her elite play was noticed as she was named an East Division Second Team All-Star for the second straight season.

Kaylee Choi and Sarah Song, Badminton
This duo was on another level this season in Women’s Doubles. They went undefeated at the Provincial Championships to claim the gold medal, the second straight season the Huskies claimed the top spot in the discipline. They helped the squad win the Women’s Team Championship banner for the first time since 2020. On top of this, the pair were named OCAA First Team All-Stars. The next step was the CCAA National Badminton Championships, where they took home a bronze medal.
