HUSKIES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH STING

HUSKIES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH STING

The George Brown Huskies men's baseball team split the doubleheader series with the East Division-leading Seneca Sting (8-3) on Wednesday (Oct. 13) night at Hermitage Baseball Park.

Game 1: George Brown 7, Seneca 2

The Huskies got off a fast start to the opening inning. Aiden Colangelo, Gregory Hall and Christian Bachoumis drove in a combined four runs in the opening inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead heading into the second inning.

The team added to their lead the very next inning. Brandon Nieva drove in Daniel Farrace on a sacrifice fly, and Colangelo followed it up with an RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.

From that point on, it was the Michael Guardiero show. The first-year pitcher went 5 1/3 innings, only surrendering two runs on seven hits and two walks while strikeout out four. He got help from his teammates in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loads and zero outs, the Huskies turned a triple play to get out of the jam.

Riley Annand closed things out in relief of Guardiero, going a 1 2/3 innings to hand the Huskies a much-needed victory.

Game 2: George Brown 5, Seneca 6

The second game was a very tight affair. The first four innings were a pitching duel between both staffs. However, the Huskies got on the board first, thanks an RBI double from Tyler Romandel to score Manuel Lopez Rodriguez in the bottom of the fourth.

Seneca put together their best inning on the night, posting three runs in the top of the fifth to take their first lead at 3-1. They added another run in the sixth to make 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Huskies responded with a massive rally. They started it off by loading the bases with one out. Bandura got hit by a pitch to drive in the first run. The team's RBI leader in Colangelo kept the momentum going by driving in two runs off an error to tie the score at 4-4. Nathan Pruitt followed it up with an RBI single to make the score 5-4, heading into the top of the seventh.

Unfortunately, the Huskies could not hold off the Sting. The visitors recorded two runs in the inning and kept it that way in the bottom half of the inning.

David De Cassan got the start, and he threw three shutout innings, only allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five.

UP NEXT: The Huskies play their final two games on Saturday, October 15th, when they host the Lambton Lions (1-11). This series has massive playoff implications for the team, with the team only being one game back of the Centennial Colts for the final playoff spot. The games are scheduled for 2pm and 5pm.

Before the first game of the doubleheader, George Brown will honour its graduating student-athletes.
