HUSKIES FALL TO HAWKS

HUSKIES FALL TO HAWKS

The George Brown Huskies men's baseball team dropped one game of the doubleheader against the Humber Hawks on Friday (Oct. 1) night at Connorvale Park. The ending of the second game of the doubleheader is being scheduled for another day.

Game 1: George Brown 1, Humber 11

Thanks to Brady Wagenhoffer's RBI single to drive in Kyle Bandura, the Huskies took the early lead in the first inning. Unfortunately, that was all the offence the team was able to record the rest of the contest.

The Hawks responded quickly off the bat of Dennis Dei Baning in the bottom half of the first inning. Humber went on to score at least a run in every inning the rest of the way.

Starting pitcher Andres Moran Duke threw three innings, allowing six runs off six hits and five walks in the loss.

Game 2: George Brown 9, Humber 12 (bottom of the seventh)

The Huskies did not allow that game one's loss to affect them in the second game of the doubleheader.  In the opening inning, three different players in Nathan Pruitt, Christian Bachoumis, and Carlos Acosta recorded RBIs to hand them a quick 3-0 advantage.

Similar to the first game, the Hawks responded, this time at the bottom of the second. They put together a four-run inning to retake the lead at 4-3.

Fast forward to the top of the sixth, the Huskies found themselves in 9-4 hole. However, the Huskies offence came alive once again to make it interesting. The team registered three RBIs in a row thanks to Wagenhoffer's walk, Aiden Colangelo's single and Pruitt's fielder choice to cut the deficit to 9-7, heading into the bottom half of the inning.

Once again, though, the opponents responded in a big way. Humber rallied off three runs in response to regain their five-run lead at 12-7 with one inning left.

Despite the setback, there was no quit in George Brown. The team was down to their final out, with runners on second and third. That's when Bandura and Wagenhoffer recorded back-to-back RBI singles to cut the score to 12-9. The team's RBI leader in Colengelo, who represented the game-tying run, was at the plate, but, the game was called off due to lighting issues.

The game is being rescheduled to finish up the final inning.

Notable Stat

#17 Kyle Bandura

The outfielder came up big in numerous spots throughout the two games. He ended the day going 2-for-7 with an RBI but accounted for four runs.
