George Brown Huskies Volleyball heads to Georgian College today to take on the Grizzlies in the 2022-23 season opener.

In a shortened 2021-22 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Huskies Women's team finished 5th in the East Division after a 3-5 regular season. They faced off against the Seneca Sting in the first round crossover match, but fell in straight sets.

This year, the program is poised to take some even bigger strides after a strong recruiting off season. "Our team is very excited to get our season started", says head coach Daphne Choi (6th Season). "Over the past few years we have increased our recruiting efforts, and have a new class of talented and dedicated athletes who have been working with us since the start of the off-season."

The Huskies face a Georgian team that also finished with a 3-5 record last season, and missed out on the championship tournament. The game is scheduled for a 6pm start in Barrie, Ont.

The George Brown Men's Volleyball team took to the court under new head coach Sam Schachter last season. With a team comprised mainly of walk-ons and raw talent, Schachter guided his Huskies to a 3-5 finish and 6th place in the East Division. The battled Algonquin in the first round of the OCAA playoffs, but dropped the match 3-0.

Schachter hopes to take that momentum of a playoff appearances in his first season into 2022-23. "We have a lot of exciting new players on the team this year.", says the 2nd Year head coach. "We are really excited about the energy and talent of this group, and I am confident that with our depth and versatility we can go far this year."

Their opposition tonight in the Georgian Grizzlies has been a perennial powerhouse in the OCAA, and finished 7-1 in 2021-22 but were ousted in the quarter-finals, as were the Huskies. Game time in Barrie is scheduled for 8pm.
