The George Brown women's volleyball team (11-4) entered the win column in a dominating three-set victory (25-13, 25-12, 25-13) over the Centennial Colts (4-11) on Wednesday (Feb 1) at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre. The George Brown men's volleyball team (2-13) lost in three straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-24) to the Colts who improved to 10-5 on the season with the win over the Huskies.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WVB: The Huskies came into this match after a heartbreaking defeat to the #1 seed Durham Lords and knew that the Colts would not make things easy for them, especially with the playoffs looming. Led by veteran Ashley Lau (4th Year), the Huskies showed why they are a threat on both sides of the ball playing a strong balanced game. Taylor Grant (1st Year) and Jaque Ronquillo (1st Year) both combined for 23 kills on 39 total attempts and collected 29 points as the Huskies cruised to victory. Crystal Nguyen (3rd Year) had a game high five blocks along with two kills to finish with seven points of her own. While the stat sheet does not display it, George Brown veteran Lau took care of the intangibles for the home side with precision passing and impeccable defense.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MVB: Despite losing in three-straight sets, the Huskies played all out in their match against the Colts. When the visitors would make an offensive run, the Huskies would dig deep and make an offensive run of their own. David Kiswa (1st Year), David Fountain (1st Year) and Joseph Lee (1st Year) all combined for 27 points for the Huskies while setter Cristian Miranda Morales (1st Year) collected 17 assists along with five points.
UP NEXT: The Huskies will head to Belleville, Ontario to play the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday February 4. Action begins at 1 pm. Can't make it in person? Catch all the live action on our Huskies Livestream Channel!
