HUSKIES KICK OFF JAM-PACKED WEEKEND

Huskies defender guards ball against Seneca player

A seven-game weekend kicks off for the George Brown Huskies on Friday November 11, 2022 at home at Casa Loma Campus when the basketball teams take on the visiting Algonquin Wolves. The men’s team will then also face the La Cite Coyotes on Saturday in a back-to-back.

WHAT TO EXPECT – WBB: Women’s Basketball (1-1) is coming off a road loss against the Durham Lords last week. The Huskies went into halftime with a two-point advantage, but the Lords held the Huskies to only eight points in the 3rd quarter which proved to be the difference maker in the game. The home team will face a tough squad in the Wolves on Friday November 11 at 6 pm. The Wolves are 3-0 so far this season, winning by an average of 22 points per game. The Huskies will rely on Kiara Graham, Jordyn Dawkins and Minori Fukushi to contain Algonquin’s high-powered offence of Dasia McDonald, Libby Hirst, and Sydney Moore.

Algonquin won the only meeting between the two teams in the 2021-22 season.

WHAT TO EXPECT – MBB: Men’s Basketball (2-1) came away with a 100-88 road win against the Fleming Knights on November 4th and look to ride that momentum into a back-to-back this weekend. Read full recap on our Men’s Basketball News Page.

The Algonquin Wolves (1-2) are currently on a two-game losing streak, and the Huskies hope to continue to contain the visitors with their lock-down defence led by former Defensive Player of the Year Christopher Fields. The team is averaging over 18 forced turnovers per game and 3.5 steals so far in 2022-23. Tip off is scheduled for 8 pm on Friday November 11.

In 2021-22 the Huskies won their only game of the season against the Wolves by a score of 88-71.

The 0-3 La Cite Coyotes will then visit George Brown on Saturday November 12 looking for their first win of the season. They will ride the scoring prowess of Nicolas Dutervil, who is averaging over 26 points per game so far this season on 52% shooting for the Coyotes, as well as Zamourane Sare Chabi who has put up an average of 18.5 points per game on 45% shooting from the floor. Tip off is set for 2 pm.

Across the province, the Huskies volleyball teams will also battle to take wins off the Algonquin Wolves (Nov 12) and La Cite Coyotes (Nov 13) on their home floors in Ottawa, ON.

WHAT TO EXPECT – WVB: Huskies Women’s Volleyball’s strong start to the 2022-23 campaign continued last Friday (Nov 5) when they swept the Centennial Colts in three sets on the road. Read full recap on our Women’s Volleyball News Page.

The 3-1 Huskies hope to bring that same energy to their upcoming swing trip this weekend. All of George Brown’s victories so far this season have been 3-0 sweeps of their opponents. Led by 1st Year outside hitters Jaque Ronquillo and Taylor Grant, the third place Huskies look to take one from the fourth place Wolves on their home court.

Last season George Brown dropped their only contest to Algonquin, a 3-0 home loss.

On a quick turnaround, the visitors will head down the road to La Cite to face the Coyotes on Sunday November 12 for a 1 pm game time. The Coyotes currently hold a 1-3 record and are coming off a 3-2 win over Loyalist last weekend.

WHAT TO EXPECT – MVB: George Brown Men’s volleyball hope to rebound on this weekend’s road trip from a nail biting 5-set loss to the Centennial Colts on November 5. Read full recap on our Men’s Volleyball News Page.

The eighth-place Huskies (1-3) will face the third place Algonquin Wolves (3-2) on Saturday November 12 at 6 pm to start their swing. George Brown has been led so far this season by David Kiswa, a powerful outside hitter who leads the OCAA in kills with 59 and leads the team in points per set at 3.7. His supporting cast of Arsem Talebi and David Fountain each also contribute an average of 2.2 points per set for the Huskies.

The Wolves offence is largely steered by 3rd Year player Jeff Commerford who leads the team in points, total attacks, and digs.

The next day on Sunday November 12, George Brown will tip off their second game of the back-to-back against the La Cite Coyotes (0-4) at 3 pm. As La Cite looks for their first win of the season, the Huskies will have to contain the Coyotes’ primary offensive threat in Victor Landry while continuing to push their own fire power through Kiswa, Fountain, and Talebi.
