The George Brown Huskies men's basketball team (9-1) extended their win streak to eight, after defeating the Georgian Grizzlies (5-5) 99-80 on Friday (Jan 13) in Barrie, Ontario.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The last time these two teams met, George Brown came out on top with the victory 100-69. In this game, the Huskies picked up right where they left off with a dominating performance against the Grizzlies on their home floor. As a team, the Huskies shot 55.2% going 37 for 67 from the floor and 48.4% (15 for 31) from the three-point line.
In the first quarter, the Huskies got out to an early 22-15 lead behind the scoring of Derrick Taylor (2nd Year) who had the hot hand. Taylor picked up 10 points and four rebounds in just seven minutes of action.
In the second quarter, the Grizzlies outscored the Huskies 23-21. Leading the way for Georgian was Simeon Smith (Mississauga, ON) who picked up eight points, and three assists in just eight minutes of play. Robert Ocampo (5th Year), DM Betoukoumessou (4th Year), Caldre Campbell (4th Year) and Nas Robert (1st Year) all scored four points each for George Brown. Entering half-time, the Huskies held a 43-38 lead.
The Huskies sealed their victory in the fourth quarter, outscoring the home side 26-22, led by the scoring of Robert Ocampo who netted eight points and picked up two steals in the closing quarter for George Brown. Andre Barrow (3rd Year) and Jacob Masters (2nd Year) both combined for 11 points in the final quarter for the Huskies.
Robert Ocampo would finish the game with 20 points on 8 for 16 shooting from the field and pick up three steals in the victory. Derrick Taylor added 17 points and seven rebounds and DM Betoukoumessou would finish the night with a double-double, scoring 16 points and picking up 12 rebounds in just 18 minutes of play.
UP NEXT: The Huskies are back home to host their division rivals, the Durham Lords (9-1) on Saturday January 21st at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre at 8 pm.
