Men's basketball guard Caldre Campbell and women's indoor soccer player Ruby Tureski have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week for the period ending March 5, 2023.
Caldre Campbell, Men’s Basketball
The third-year guard was a consistent threat for the George Brown Huskies during the OCAA Provincial Championship at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ont. He averaged 9.3 points, five assists, three rebounds and 1.3 steals in 32 minutes in the three games. His impressive performances helped the team claim a silver medal, a trip to the CCAA National Championship and a tournament all-star nod.
Campbell’s best games came in the semifinals and final for the Huskies. He put up almost identical stat lines in the games. Off the bench in the semifinals against the Mohawk Mountaineers, he put up 13 points, six assists and two steals. Less than 24 hours later, with Chris Field unable to play, Campbell was pencilled in as the starting point guard and didn’t look out of the place. He filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, six assists, four rebound, two blocks and a steal.
Ruby Tureski, Women’s Indoor Soccer
The first-year Husky was outstanding at the Regionals posting a team-high five goals in three matches. Turseki was a key cog in the team finishing first in their group with a 4-0 record and punching their ticket to the OCAA Provincial Championships next week. Also, the Huskies outscored their opponents 16-2.
She scored in every match except for one. Her most dominant performance came against Laurier Brantford, when she registered a hat-trick in a 7-2 to clinch the team’s spot at Provincials.
