HUSKIES FINISH SEASON 17-1 AFTER WIN OVER SLC

Huskies #12 passes the ball inside to teammate

Riding a 15-game winning streak, the Huskies were home to the St. Lawrence Surge to close out the 2022-23 regular season. On a night where George Brown was celebrating grad night for student-athletes Jacob Masters (2nd year), Derrick Taylor (3rd year) and Naseem Barry (2nd year), they would not disappoint the capacity crowd at the Den with a blow-out 112-63 victory. See full bios of the athletes who were honored pre-game at the end of the article.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Huskies jumped out to a 23-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. Behind 44.4% shooting efficiency from the floor, including 6-10 from behind the 3-point line, the home team also forced the Surge into 10 turnovers in the opening frame.

George Brown continued to build on their lead in the second quarter. Shooting lights-out at 63.2%, they tallied 36 points in the quarter to increase their lead to 59-26 going into halftime. They also forced another 10 turnovers and outrebounded St. Lawrence 11-4.

The second half continued with much of the same, behind 13 points in the third quarter from Jeremiah Brown who connected on 5-6 field goal attempts including three 3-pointers. The rookie led the Huskies in scoring for the game with 17 points on 66.7% shooting. Fellow forward DM Betoukoumessou also filled up the stat line, connecting for a perfect 7-7 from the floor while collecting 10 rebounds for the double-double. Betoukoumessou finished the season 1st in the OCAA in field goal percentage at 71.2%.

With a final score of 112-63, the Huskies finished the regular season on a 16-game winning streak with a league leading record of 17-1.

UP NEXT: George Brown (1st place East Division, 17-1) is scheduled to host the Redeemer Royals (8th place West Division, 5-13) on Saturday February 25 at 4pm at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre for a playoff crossover matchup which will see the winner book their ticket to the OCAA Provincial Championship (St. Clair College March 2-5, 2023).

The Huskies will be looking to avenge the same playoff crossover matchup as last season, where George Brown was upset by the visiting Royals.
