Men's Basketball forwards Derrick Taylor and Jeremiah Brown have been named the Huskies athletes of the week for the period ending March 19.
Derrick Taylor, Men's Basketball
The fourth-year forward was the most consistent player for the Huskies at the CCAA National Championship. Taylor averaged 18 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting 48.6% from the field in the three games. He was the only player on the team to hit double-digit points in all three games.
In the final game against the VIU Mariners, he dropped 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals in a losing effort. He was named Player of the Game for his performance.
Jeremiah Brown, Men's Basketball
The fourth-year forward was the perfect spark plug off the bench at the CCAA National Championship. He posted a team-high 19 points on 55% shooting while registering 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in the tournament. Brown's incredible play didn't go unnoticed as he was named a National Tournament Second-Team All-Star.
In the opening game against the Capilano Blues, he put together one of the best individual efforts at the tournament. He shot 12-of-18, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc for game-high 31 points. That performance pushed the Huskies to a 120-113 overtime victory in the quarter-finals. Of course, he earned the Player of the Game award for his impressive play.
