HUSKIES STREAK HITS SIX IN WIN OVER COLTS

Huskies #11 goes up for layup between two Colts players

The George Brown Huskies (7-1) extended their winning streak to six in a win over the Centennial Colts (4-4) on Friday evening (Nov 25) at home in front of a packed house at Casa Loma Athletic Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In a game where George Brown shot over 50.7% from the floor and 78.9% from the free throw line, and had five players in double-figures scoring, Centennial had very little room for error. And the Huskies did just that, forcing errors, including 25 turnovers and tallying 16 steals.

The home squad rallied behind great energy from its fans to start the game, holding a 23-18 advantage at the end of the first. Leading the way for the Huskies was 3rd Year point guard Caldre Campbell who recorded six points, five rebounds and two assists in the opening quarter.

While the Colts started to heat up in the second quarter shooting 57.1% from the floor, led by Jacob Macalalad who was 3-3 with 8 points. But the Huskies responded with a hot touch of their own, shooting 65% as a team. Chris Fields (5th Year) and Derrick Taylor (3rd Year) each notched seven points in the quarter to contribute to the mounting Huskies lead. They would go into halftime up 54-43.

Centennial held a slight advantage in 3rd quarter scoring coming out of the halftime break, closing the lead to 73-65 going into the final quarter.

Huskies Head Coach Jason Dawkins (4th Season) knew the Colts would not go away quietly. "It was a hard game, as our two teams have two very different styles of play.", commented Dawkins. "But by the end of the game, our team came together on the defensive end by taking some key charges and winning the rebounding battle."

Feeding off of those key defensive plays, the Huskies would go into cruise control mode in the last frame. Sparked offensively by Naseem Barry's (2nd Year) brilliant shooting touch, the 6'8" forward went 3-3 from behind the arc and 4-5 in total from the floor for 11 points only six minutes of play. And George Brown rode that momentum to the final buzzer, collecting a final 93-79 win.

The victory now puts the Huskies at 7-1 on the season, good for 1st place in the OCAA East Division going into the final game of the semester.

UP NEXT: The Georgian Grizzlies will travel to Toronto, ON to face the Huskies at home in the final game before the holiday break. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre. Can't make the game in person? Catch all the action live on our Huskies Livestream Channel!
