HUSKIES BASKETBALL TAKE DOWN STING IN HOME OPENER

On Friday October 28 inside the Casa Loma Athletic Centre, the George Brown women and men's basketball teams hosted the Seneca Sting in front of a capacity crowd. Both teams would defend home court with the women's team winning 54-48 and the men's team earning a 78-70 victory. Both teams now hold a 1-0 record to open the 2022-23 OCAA basketball season.

HOW IT HAPPENED | WOMEN
: The Huskies came out in the first half outscoring the Sting 30-16, led by  Minori Fukushi (1st Year) scoring seven points and Kiara Graham (1st Year) also with seven points. In the second half, the Sting would come out looking like a completely different team, outscoring the Huskies 18-4, making it 34-34 entering the final quarter. In front of their home crowd, the Huskies would dig deep, showing grit and determination to come out with the victory outscoring the Sting 20-14 to take the game 54-48.

Graham would finish the night with 16 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Fukushi would add 13 points, seven rebounds, six steals and two assists along with Jordyn Dawkins (1st Year) who added 11 points and 10 rebounds to complete the Huskies victory.

UP NEXT: The team will now shift their attention to their upcoming road game against the undefeated Durham College Lords (2-0) on Tuesday November 1 at 6pm.


HOW IT HAPPENED | MEN
: The first quarter of the men's game started off with high energy from both sides, as they exchanged baskets going back and forth. The Sting would hold a slight edge over the Huskies to end the first quarter 19-16. In the second frame, George Brown came out determined to close the gap before halftime. Led by Jeremiah Brown (4th Year transfer from Loyalist College) with seven points and Naseem Barry (2nd Year) with six points and four rebounds, the Huskies would enter halftime with 37-35 lead.

The second half would see Seneca's Jake Ohana put the Sting on his back in the attempted comeback scoring 21 points in the second half, including five three-pointers on six attempts, but the Huskies would prove to be the stronger team coming out with the 78-70 victory.  

The Huskies had five players finish with double digit points including Robert Ocampo (5th Year) and Caldre Campbell (4th Year) both with 14 points, along with Derrick Taylor (2nd Year) 11 points and Nasseem Barry (2nd Year) with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremiah Brown would also finish with 10 points on the night.  


UP NEXT: The Huskies will be in action again on Tuesday November 1 as they travel to Durham to take on the Durham College Lords (1-1). Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
