MEN'S BASKETBALL HOLD NUMBER ONE SPOT IN ONTARIO

The George Brown men's basketball team (16-1) extended their win streak to 15 after sweeping their Eastern Ontario road trip in Ottawa over the weekend. The Huskies defeated the Algonquin Wolves (7-9) on Saturday (Feb 11) by a score of 93-83 and carried that momentum into their second game on Sunday (Feb 12) against the La Cite Coyotes (0-16) winning that contest 84-51.

HOW IT HAPPENED – ALG: The Huskies jumped out to an early 35-16 lead in the first quarter with offense coming from Derrick Taylor (2nd Year) who netted eight point in eight minutes along with Chris Fields (5th Year), Caldre Campbell (4th Year) and Jeremiah Brown (4th Year) who added five points each to give George Brown the early advantage. In second quarter the Wolves would outscore the Huskies 19-17 to enter halftime trailing 52-35. In the third quarter, despite the Huskies getting to the line six times they would only convert two time shooting 33% from the free throw line. In the fourth quarter, the Wolves continued to put pressure on the Huskies defense by outscoring them 28-21 but time would run out for Algonquin as George Brown would go on to take the game 93-83.  


Campbell and Brown would combine for 33 points along with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Taylor would finish with 13 points on 5 for 8 shooting from the field and came up two rebounds (8) shy of a double-double in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED – LAC: In their second game of their back-to-back the Huskies would once again jump out to an early 23-11 lead in the first quarter led by the scoring of Nas Robert (2nd Year) and Naseem Barry (2nd Year) who combined for eight points in just seven minutes of action. The Huskies extended their lead in the second quarter adding 25 points while the Coyotes could only score 14 to enter the halftime break trailing 48-25. In the second half, the Huskies would add 36 points while La Cite could only add 26 to lose the game by a final score of 84-51.

Robert would finish with 16 points in just 15 minutes of work shooting 7 for 12 from the field. Veteran guard, Chris Fields finished with 12 points and Taylor and Barry would finish with seven points each in the Huskies victory.
