A TRIO OF HUSKIES EARN OCAA HONOURS

After an impressive season, the Men’s Volleyball team had three individuals, head coach Luke Sim, David Froebel and Kobe John, who earned OCAA hardware.

Sim was awarded the OCAA East Division Coach of the Year in his second year as the Interim Head Coach. His leadership and volleyball knowledge have been a massive benefit to the team. At the helm, the Huskies improved their win total from last year by eight to 11-7 and finished fourth in the division. George Brown ranked in the top eight in the OCAA in kills per set (10.66), total attacks (1798), hitting percentage (.250) and assists per set (9.86). The team accomplished this with a young roster, as 14 of the 16 players are in their first or second year of eligibility.

Froebel made an outstanding first impression in the OCAA. He was named an East Division Second-Team All-Star and a member of the East Division All-Rookie Team. His ability to take over matches for the Huskies is second to none, and he displayed his overall ability throughout the season. The first-year outside hitter was a force offensively, ranking seventh in the province in kills per set (3.04), twlefth in total kills (164), thirteenth in points per set (3.4), fourteenth in hitting percentage (.291) and twenty-first in total points (184). It marks the second straight time the program had a player earned All-Rookie and All-Star honours in their first season.

John was the perfect addition for the Huskies, and it showed on the court this season, being named an East Division Second-Team All-Star. His calm demeanour, leadership and energy rubbed off on the young roster. His abilities on both sides of the ball solidified the middle for the pack, and he is considered one of the best at this positions in the province. He ranked seventh in total blocks while posting 2.2 points per set and 136 total points this season.
