The George Brown Huskies women's volleyball team is pleased to announce the commitment of Julia Gordon to play for the program beginning in the 2022-2023 season.
"Julia is a positive and friendly teammate that is selfless in her contributions to her team. The Huskies over the last several years have built a culture of support and hard work, values that Julia is eager to exhibit in every practice," head coach Daphne Choi explained. "We are excited as a team to continue to commit athletes from high-performing programs as we see our program continually improve."
The 5'10 outside hitter played for the South County Bandits volleyball club for the last eight years and her high school team at Sandwich Secondary School. During her high school career, she was named captain, awarded MVP, and won the WECSAA and SWOSSA championships in volleyball. She has also found success in the classroom, making the honour roll throughout high school.
She will be enrolled in the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Culinary Management) come the fall. The Windsor, Ont., native is ready to take the next step of her journey both on the court and in the classroom at George Brown College.
"I decided to commit to George Brown because their culinary management program is the best in Canada and allowed me to pursue cooking and business," Gordon explained. "I'm looking forward to making new friends and being able to continue playing the sport I love. In the classroom, I'm also excited to study a subject I'm interested in."
The women's volleyball program has been on a roll recently, making the OCAA playoffs three years in a row, including this season when they went 3-5 in a shortened campaign. Their best campaign was during 2019-20, going 11-7. They set a franchise record for wins and earned their first crossover home playoff match since the program was inaugurated in 2006-2007.
