HAANY AHMED, BRIANNA SAMUELS-MCLAUGHLIN NAMED HUSKIES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Haany Ahmed (Men's Basketball)

Haany Ahmed led the men's basketball teams to a pair of wins last week, victories that saw the Huskies improve to 13-2 on the season and move into a tie for first in the east division. In Friday night's 97-80 win over Algonquin Ahmed poured in a team-high 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field and went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. He was also a force on the defensive side of the ball, grabbing a season-high eight steals along with four rebounds and three helpers. He followed that up with a 10-point performance in Saturday's 95-57 romp of La Cite, hitting 2-of-4 three's while dishing out four assists and three boards. Ahmed has turned himself into one of George Brown's most consistent performers, a threat from deep who can alleviate pressure off of the Huskies ball-handlers when needed.

Next up for the Huskies is a visit to Loyalist on Friday, February 1.

Brianna Samuels-McLaughlin (Women's Indoor Soccer)

Brianna Samuels-McLaughlin led a shorthanded Huskies women's indoor soccer team to a solid performance at the season-opening Redeemer Invitational. Samuels-MacLaughlin was sensational during the outdoor season, leading the team in scoring while sending George Brown to a crossover playoff game. Normally the teams leading striker, head coach Leslie Fitzpatrick moved her to defence last week due to several missing players, a role she is not accustomed to filling. "Brianna won every single battle that she faced," said Fitzpatrick, "she triggered our offence as well, showing just how skilled a player she is." The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0-1 start on the day before Samuels-McLaughlin exited due to injury - had she not, the Huskies may well have been competing for a title to open their season.

Next up George Brown will host their own Huskies Invitational on Thursday, January 31.
