ALINA KARPOVNIKOVA, JORDAN SODHI NAMED HUSKIES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Alina Karpovnikova (Women's Volleyball)

In George Brown's biggest game of the season to date, Alina Karpovnikova came up huge. Battling Loyalist for one of the final two playoff spots in the east, the Huskies swept the Lancers 3-0 on the road, moving two games up in the win column and two victories away from assuring themselves a spot in a crossover game. Karpovnikova led the Huskies attack, earning a team-high 13 points and seven kills on 10 total attacks in an incredibly efficient performance. Playing alongside a lethal frontcourt that includes Beatriz Vilches, Tiana Samuel and Ashley Lau, if Karpovnikova can prove herself a steady contributor it will add yet another dimension to an already tough to defend George Brown attack.

The top seven teams in the east will qualify to play in a crossover game, and wins in their final two games would guarantee the Huskies a spot.

Next up George Brown will play host to Georgian in a crucial matchup on Wednesday night at St. James, opening serve is set for 6:00 p.m.

Jordan Sodhi (Men's Indoor Soccer)

For the third consecutive season the Huskies men's indoor soccer won their own tournament, going a perfect 4-0 while outscoring opponents 13-0 on Thursday at the George Brown Tournament. Jordan Sodhi combined with Yanic Stambolich to pitch four consecutive shutouts, with Sodhi in net for the tournament-clinching 3-0 win over Seneca. While the pair played in front of a solid defensive unit, they were both called upon on several occasions and clearly up to the task. Sodhi is building on a standout outdoor season, where he went 4-1-4 with a 1.60 goals against average and made 44 saves. George Brown has now won two of three tournaments to open the indoor soccer season.

Next up for the indoor soccer team is the Sheridan Tournament on Saturday, February 16.
