MEN’S VOLLEYBALL ADDS TRANSFER BROOMES

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL ADDS TRANSFER BROOMES

The George Brown Huskies men's volleyball team is thrilled to announce the commitment of Tyrese Broomes as their first recruit for the 2024-25 season.

"On my first visit I was welcomed with a very kind and friendly group of guys. I appreciated the open arms as being a new body in the gym can be a little overwhelming but that was not the case with these guys. I instantly loved the intensity and determination everyone showed on the court and knew that if the opportunity presented itself, I would love to be a part of this home," Broomes explained. "I knew that I would be in good hands with an amazing staff and a high energy team. I am very happy and proud to commit to the George Brown Huskies."

The 6'6 middle blocker redshirted last season with York University's men's volleyball team. Before his time at York, he played for the Reach Volleyball Club and was named Athlete of the Year four times at Unionville High School. First-year head coach Tyler Latu'ila, who previously worked with Broomes as an assistant coach at York, is eager to see him showcase his talents in the OCAA.

"Tyrese has developed a strong love for volleyball through his experience with club and as an OUA practice athlete. He was a pleasure to have in the York Lions gym last season and we were stoked when he wanted to join the Huskies," Latu'ila shared. "He has a lot of athletic talent, but more importantly he has a lot of potential as a leader. We look forward to seeing him develop his leadership skills on this team."

He will enroll in the Early Childhood Education program, and is ready to accomplish his goals on and off the field in September.

"I hope to become a staple on the court and not only improve myself but everyone around me. I plan to receive the best education I can while being able to manage the load of varsity sports," said, Broomes.

The men's volleyball team is coming off a successful campaign, finishing with an 11-7 record and securing fourth place in their division. They also hosted a crossover playoff match for the first time since 2018.
