The George Brown Huskies men’s volleyball team has recruited four new players in Nick Fobih, Julien Jouan, Maximilian Kosciuch and Yaroslav Svidritskiy.
“This is a very special recruiting class. All of these athletes align with our program's values and we believe they will raise the standard in our gym, classrooms, and community. These signings are going to play a crucial role in our road to Provincials and Nationals,” first-year head coach Tyler Latu’ila explained.
Nick Fobih: 6’0/Outside Hitter
Program: Computer Programming
“I felt like the culture of the school creates an environment that I can thrive in, and I believe the coaching staff and team would not only help further my development while also driving the team to compete at the highest level” Fobih said.
Fobih brings a wealth of experience, earning MVP honours with SMCS Volleyball in 2017 and the Richmond Hill Thundercats in 2018. Most recently, he played for Western University’s Junior Varsity team. The 6'0" outside hitter is eager to contribute on the court and excel academically in his Computer Programming studies.
“I hope to continue my development on and off the court while contributing to the team’s success. I want to help end the medal drought for the volleyball program while making sure that the player that I am at the end of the season is unrecognizable compared to where I am right now,” he said. “In the classroom I want to be an upstanding member of the student community while achieving academic excellence.”
Julien Jouan: 6’6/Right Side
Program: Culinary Skills Program
“I chose to commit to George Brown because it is recognized as one of the best culinary schools in Canada, and I am eager to learn from its exceptional programs and instructors,” Jouan explained. “I am excited about the opportunity to be part of such a dynamic team and hungry to prove myself and make a meaningful impact both on and off the court.”
Jouan spent four seasons with the Windsor Lancers of the OUA, playing in 22 matches, recording 69 kills and 31 blocks. Prior to his time there, he played for the Reach Volleyball club. Now enrolled in George Brown’s Culinary Skills program, Jouan is ready to face new challenges on and off the court.
“In the classroom, I aim to learn as much as possible and connect with others who share my interests, using these experiences to advance toward my goals. On the court, I aspire to make a significant impact as a Husky, contributing to the team's success and growth,” he explained.
Maximilian Kosciuch: 6’6/Middle
Program: Early Childhood Education
“I chose George Brown for its downtown location and broad program offering, granting me the opportunity to have the best experience possible for my field of study. In addition, the entire GBC volleyball family and athletics department welcomed me with open arms, keen on ensuring I was cared for and prepared for the upcoming season, making my decision to commit that much easier,” Kosciuch explained.
Kosciuch is transferring from the York Lions of the OUA. At the club level, he played a key role in helping Pakmen Volleyball secure 18U Provincial and National Championships, as well as a 17U National silver medal. He is committed to sharpening his skills on the court and making a meaningful impact both athletically and academically.
“On the court, I strive to keep honing my skills to become a dominant middle in the league and play my role in bringing success to the George Brown Men's Volleyball program. Off the court, I want to broaden my knowledge to become the best version of myself as a student and person,” he stated.
Yaroslav Svidritskiy: 6’7/Outside Hitter
Program: Game – Programming
“I committed to George Brown College because I saw an opportunity to play volleyball with some of my closest friends while also getting coached by one of my favourite coaches,” Svidritskiy said. “Coach Tyler was one of my coaches at Next Gen Beach Volleyball program and when I got word that he will be the head coach of the program I didn’t have a doubt in my mind that this was the right place for me.”
Svidritskiy joins George Brown from TMU, where he played for two seasons (2021-2023). Before that, he competed with Markham Unity and Markham Revolution Volleyball Club. He has set three key goals for his time as a Husky.
“As an athlete I want to push myself to be the best I’ve ever been at volleyball in my next 3 years with the program. As a teammate I hope to beat all George Brown Volleyball records and eventually take on a leadership role on the team. I strongly believe that with the current coaching and roster of our team it is possible and I will do everything I can to make that happen,” he explained. “As a student I want to have the same level of commitment to my academics as I do to volleyball to further my goal of taking on a leadership role on the team by being an example both in and out of the classroom.”
