George Brown College badminton players Sarthak Arora and Monique Lee were named 2022-23 Badminton East Division all-stars at the OCAA Provincial Championship awards banquet on Thursday February 16, 2023.
In his second season with the Huskies, Sarthak Arora made his mark this year on the OCAA circuit in both singles play and doubles play, earning himself an OCAA East Division All-Star team selection.
The Sport & Event Marketing post-grad student experienced a great tournament season leading into the regional championships.
He went 10-0 over two A-flight disciplines at the opening Fanshawe Invitational, capturing two first place finishes while also claiming the top of the podium in men's doubles B-flight. At the Centennial Invitational he finished the tournament with a second place and two third place finishes.
Arora qualified for the OCAA Provincial Championship (KC Badminton Club, Aurora ON) after claiming first position in mixed doubles at the East Regional qualifier with partner Monique Lee, going 3-0 in the round robin event.
Monique Lee, in her first year with the Huskies, has shone bright. The Computer Systems Technician student has been a standout in both mixed doubles and women's doubles play all season long.
She claimed two second place A-flight finishes at the Fanshawe Invitational, and finished in first and second place in A-flight mixed doubles and women's doubles events, respectively, at the Centennial Invitational.
Lee will be paired up with mixed doubles partner Sarthak Arora as the OCAA Provincial Championship kicks off at 9am on Friday February 17, 2023 at KC Badminton Club in Aurora, ON. Her and Arora went 3-0 at the East Regional qualifier, finishing in the top seed.
