HUSKIES LAND SHOOTING GUARD DAWKINS

HUSKIES LAND SHOOTING GUARD DAWKINS

The George Brown Huskies women’s basketball team is pleased to announce that Jordyn Dawkins has committed to compete for the Huskies beginning in the 2022-23 season.

“I chose George Brown because it’s closer to home, I already have a connection with the coach, and he knows how I play, so it’s easier for him to find a role for me that fits my talents,” Dawkins said.

The 5'8 shooting guard is graduating from Archbishop Denis O’Connor. She will be enrolled in the Business Administration program come the fall.

"Jordyn's skill set is being a great shooter, and her confidence and fearless to take the high-pressure shot in any situation. She has an excellent feel for the game and is great on both sides of the ball,” head coach Omari Wiltshire explained. “She brings tenacity for competition in every moment. She’s also a very likeable and coachable teammate and student.”

Dawkins played for the UEWB Canada Academy for numerous seasons and recently played on their U19 team during the 2021-2022 campaign. In addition, she has collected a few awards, including Athlete of the Year, Young Woman of Community Service and Most Improved Player. Coach Wiltshire believes Dawkins will make an immediate impact with the Huskies this season.

"I believe Jordyn holds high expectations for herself first. We truly believe that she will make a major impact in the OCAA with her amazing shooting ability,” coach Wiltshire explained. “I expect her to come ready to accept the challenge of covering the best player on the opposing teams while also being one of our top scorers. I believe she can make the All-Rookie team next season.”

There are many challenges being a student-athlete, such as balancing school, practices, and games. However, Dawkins has a few goals she would like to accomplish during her time at George Brown College.

“I would like to keep working on my leadership skills and be the best teammate everyone can rely on. I would like to improve my grades and find a good group of friends in the classroom,” she explained."
