PROSKOS COMMITS TO HUSKIES BASKETBALL

PROSKOS COMMITS TO HUSKIES BASKETBALL

The George Brown Huskies women’s basketball team is pleased to announce that Ava Proskos has committed to compete for the Huskies starting in the 2022-23 season.

“I came to George Brown College because I wanted to start my basketball journey somewhere that I would fit in, with motivational coaches and people that would push me. Which is what I felt at George Brown College,” Proskos explained. “I feel like this school will do lots for me as a stepping stone to get me to where I want to be down the road.”

The Pickering, Ont., native comes to the Huskies after playing for Scarborough Prep of the OSBA. The 5’6 point guard is graduating from Dunbarton High School. During her time there, Proskos was named MVP of the basketball team three straight years. She also found success with the Durham City Chameleons of the OBA, making it to the final three consecutive seasons before high school.

“Ava is another high IQ player and is tough as nails,” head coach Omari Wiltshire stated. “Offensively, she’s a playmaker with and without the ball. She stretches the floor with her shooting abilities but can also create her own shot off the dribble. She will be a great addition to this team, and I’m excited to see what she can do for us.”

Proskos will be enrolled in the social work program come the fall and is determined to succeed both on the court and in the classroom.

“I hope to achieve a lot here. I am ready to put all my work in and strive to be better. I hope to make a mark here and continue my basketball career afterwards,” she explained. “Academically, I hope to achieve a full degree here and learn great life skills that prepare me for social work. Balancing both basketball and school has been something I have been doing for a long time, and I am ready to take both very seriously to achieve greatness.”

Proskos becomes the third recruit to commit to the Huskies women’s basketball program for this upcoming season. Similar to the other recruits, head coach Wiltshire has high expectations.

“I expect her to continue to grow as a player and achieve her goals on and off the court. I believe Ava will be one of the many ladies on the Huskies women's team to achieve OCAA honours possibly,” Wiltshire explained. “I expect excellence from her in the classroom, while on the court, she can be a significant factor in our success next season. It’s a lot of pressure, but I believe she will be ready for the challenge.”
