The George Brown Huskies women’s basketball team announces Kiara Graham as their first new incoming recruit ahead of the 2022-23 season.
“I’m extremely excited to join the Huskies,” Graham explained. “I decided to commit to George Brown because of the program’s welcoming community and support staff.”
The 5'9 guard is graduating from Father John Redmond Catholic School at the school year's conclusion. She will be enrolled in the Pre Health Sciences Pathway to Certification and Diplomas program come the fall.
“Kiara has a high motor and goes all out throughout the game. She takes pride in doing the hard things and giving it her all no matter what,” head coach Omari Wiltshire explained.
Graham played in one of the top leagues in Ontario this season with the Redmond Redhawks of the OSBA. She averaged 4.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. In addition, she was a multisport athlete as she competed in varsity track and field, soccer and basketball in 2019 while being named MVP of the track and field team and YRAA championships the same season.
“Kiara can get into the paint with ease playing at the point guard, shooting guard or small forward. She is a highly-skilled player and can finish with strength,” coach Wiltshire explained. “Defensively she will make an instant impact on our team. She’s willing to get on the ground, absorb contact and has a high basketball IQ. We will be able to create chaos on the court for all four quarters.”
Being an athlete is only half of what it means to be a student-athlete. On the academic side, Graham earned honour roll in all four years in high school. She plans on thriving in all facets during her time at George Brown College.
“In the classroom, I hope to maintain a high GPA in order to enhance my knowledge in the sciences. On the basketball court I plan on being a lockdown defender, also an active contributor to the team's future success,” she explained.
