The George Brown Huskies women's basketball team is excited to announce the addition of Jamilah Christian to the program ahead of the 2025-26 season.
"I was very excited to have the opportunity to make a big impact on the team next year and after meeting the coaches it made me that much more excited! I'm looking forward to a great all round experience," she explained.
The 5'6 guard played for the TMU Bold women's basketball team for three seasons between 2021 and 2024, appearing in 20 regular season games. She was part of the Bold roster that captured the program's first OUA and U SPORTS Championship in 2022.
Second-year head coach Ian Morse is eager to see Christian step on the court with George Brown.
"Jamilah adds another veteran presence to our team and immediately enhances our guard depth. Her selfless style of play will mesh really well with our returners and new additions, and we are really excited to have her on the team next season," Morse said.
Christian says her decision to join the program was based on both athletic and academic reasons.
"I decided to commit to George Brown College because the Social Service Worker program seems like a great way to gain therapeutic experience before trying for a master's in social work or counselling psychology," she said. "Also, considering I have more eligibility left, I was heavily considering joining the women's basketball team. I've known Ian from my time at TMU so when I found out he was the coach it made my decision to play much easier."
Before TMU, she played for Windsor St. Clair Girls Basketball of the JUEL league, where she was a two-time all-star and JUEL Prep team captain. She was a member of the 2017 Team Ontario member and a graduate of L'École Secondaire Catholique E. J. Lajeunesse, where she was a dominant high school player. She was also an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) "A" gold and silver medalist, a three-time district champion, a three-time district all-star, and a district Tier 1 MVP.
"I'm hoping to be able to gain valuable experience from this program and further my skills in supporting vulnerable populations. On the court, I'm hoping to be able to make a strong contribution and help the team to go as far as possible this season," Christine stated.
Morse believes her game will translate seamlessly to the OCAA.
"Jamilah is a crafty guard who can get to the rim and finish, she's also able to create shots off the dribble for herself and her teammates. She immediately makes us more dynamic in the halfcourt and quicker in transition," he explained.
