The Huskies Men’s Soccer team is back on the pitch on September 8th when they host the Algonquin Wolves at Esther Shiner Stadium.
Last season, the team made history going a perfect 10-0 record to win the East Division crown, scoring a league-high 62 goals, while allowed the fewest against with four. The team received a total of 15 OCAA awards for their outstanding regular-season performance. Additionally, they hosted the OCAA Provincial Championship and finished fourth.
Coach’s Thought
The program has qualified for the last three OCAA Provincial Championship and last year’s OCAA Coach of the Year John Williams is looking to continue to the trend in the fall.
“We were fortunate to have added depth and quality within our roster, which in turn was a reflection on the field. My thoughts on expectations of this season are truly focused on consistency,” he explained. “Consistency on the field, but more the commitment to utilize my roster and depth. Establishing a more prepared group of players, who are constantly developing, learning and ready throughout the season if called upon.”
Key Returning Players
Mark Do Coito, Defender
The team captain is entering his fourth season with the Huskies. Since he joined in 2021, he has helped the program reached new heights. Individually, he earned OCAA East Division
Defensive Player of the Year and East Division League First-Team All-Star two years in a row. From the team side, he’s one of two returning players that have been part of the Huskies three straight OCAA Provincial Championship appearance, including a silver medal in 2021 and a bronze in 2022, also part of a CCAA National Championship berth in 2021.
In his career with the Huskies, Do Coito has played 25 matches, while posted 16 goals, while playing a critical role defensively.
Adam Wood, Defender
Wood joined the Huskies last season and fit perfectly on the back line. He helped the team only concede four goals during their historic 10-0 season. The defender was named an East Division Second Team All-Star and went on to earned an OCAA Championship All-Star nod.
