HUSKIES ADVANCE TO QUARTER-FINALS

HUSKIES ADVANCE TO QUARTER-FINALS

The George Brown women's basketball team qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time since 2020 after edging out the Redeemer Royals 68-66 at home on Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED: This game was the definition of intensity, momentum swings and grit. From the tip-off, the Royals came out flying. They put together a 10-4, which helped them to hold a 40-33 lead at halftime.

Down by eight early with five minutes left in the third quarter, the Huskies sparked a 12-4 run to head into the fourth quarter trailing 53-52. The team rode that momentum in the fourth quarter to jump to a 63-58 advantage with only three and a half minutes left. Redeemer fought back to go up 65-64 with just 38 seconds left. That's when Anan Abbatulam saved the day, hitting a clutch layup and nailing back-to-back free throws to help the Huskies hold off the Royals.

NOTABLE STATS: First-year forward Abbatulam led the way with a team-high 16 points, five rebounds and two steals, while third-year guard Valencia tallied 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.

First-year guard Jordane Prendergast was the perfect spark plug off the bench, posting 10 points, two rebounds and two assists.

UP NEXT: The Huskies hit the road to battle the St. Clair Saints in the quarter-finals. All the action starts at 5pm on Saturday, February 24th.
