MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER PUT TO THE CHALLENGE

Yussuf Faki just might have a bit of a dilemma.

He likes to use his hands and feet, but has to remember when not to get confused.

The 21-year old needs his hands, in a promising career, after graduating from George Brown's Building Renovation Program.

As for his feet, he plays soccer for the Huskies and it's a sport where using hands is a no-no.

"It can get a bit difficult," said Faki. "But, when you try hard in both, you know when to use your hands and the same for the feet."

Faki, at 5-foot-7, prefers playing forward and learned the sport growing up in his native Tanzania, a country in East Africa.

He played for the Huskies during the outdoor season in the Fall a team that went 2-5-1 and missed the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association playoffs.

Now, on the indoor squad, he's hoping to help George Brown make it to the provincial championship March 21 and 22 in Ancaster.

When he's not playing soccer, or working part time at a restaurant, Faki is learning how build things. Quite a bit different from his days at Centennial, where Faki attended after graduating from Bishop Romero High.

"I was in Biomedical Engineering Technology (at Centennial) and, after one semester, I realized that it wasn't the right thing for me," said Faki, who came to Canada in 2008. "Sometimes, students come right out of high school and are not really sure of what they want to do. I was one of them."

Faki seems to feel right at home where he is now having built stairs, cabinets and now involved in a class project constructing a miniature house.

"I like using my hands and want to show my skills," said Faki, who indicated he wants to be a contractor and someday own my own business. "As a little kid, I use to dream about helping people and, maybe, one day might return to Tanzania to help there." - DG
