Almost 300 people, from athletes and coaches to managers and special guests, attended the event that recognized athletes of the year, rookie of the year, most valuable players and special award winners.
Anne Sado, President of George Brown, along with many senior administrators, corporate sponsors and special guests Perdita Felicien, George Brown grad and Canadian Olympic Committee member Amy Williams, Gemini award winner and veteran broadcaster Brian Williams, and Cabinet Ministers Bal Gosal and Michael Chan acknowledged the combination of excellence in academics and athletics.
Niengue, as female Rookie of the Year, beat out Joanita Louw (cross country), Jaime Janssen (basketball), Yunji Kim (badminton) and Rana Abdel-Aziz (soccer).
Luu got the nod as the top male rookie at George Brown edging out Emmanuel Mukuna (basketball), John Cadougan (basketball), D'Artaniel Jackman (volleyball) and Sean Lasala (volleyball).
Niengue, an international student from Portugal and learning English As A Second Language, was a power hitter for the Huskies and the only Husky chosen to the post-season
Luu, an outside hitter from Brampton and studying Business Administration Finance, finished 21
