The George Brown Huskies women’s volleyball team is excited to announce the addition of Danni Corpuz ahead of the 2025–2026 season.
The Huskies are on an unprecedented new path where we're seeking out new talent and taking a more aggressive approach to the game. Dannielle represents that program directly as I've rarely seen athletes more dedicated to their craft than Dannielle,” head coach Daphne Choi explained. “Her passion for the game shines through from the first interaction with her. As an out-of-province athlete, she's also bringing a wealth of experience in highly competitive environments. On top of that, it is rare as a coach to see an athlete so invested in the academic program they're seeking out at a young age. Dannielle was very clear about her academic goals and was thrilled to have accepted her 1st program of choice at George Brown College.”
The 5’5" outside hitter played for the FOG Volleyball Club in Edmonton, Alta., and is currently an assistant coach for the U16G EV Sea Dragons.
“I decided to commit to GBC because it offers the perfect combination of location, support, and opportunity. The school’s location in the heart of Toronto was particularly of interest for me! I was also seeking a change in my life, and George Brown felt like the right place for a fresh start,” she said. “Most importantly, I’ve always prayed for new opportunities, and this one feels like an answer to those prayers. I’ve learned from the past not to close doors that God has opened, and this opportunity at George Brown is one I’m excited to embrace. I believe this school is the right place for me to excel both academically and athletically, especially in volleyball, and I’m eager to make the most of it.”
Choi believes Corpuz is a perfect fit for the team and even reminds her of a former Husky.
“Dannielle is super fast. She's got extremely agile footwork and reminds of Husky greats like Ashley Lau, who was integral to lighting the spark at the beginning of my coaching time with George Brown College. Dannielle has an aggressive swing and ability to challenge the block repeatedly,” Choi explained.
Corpuz will be enrolled in the Honours Bachelor of Behaviour Analysis program and she’s ready for all challenges on and off the court.
“My goal is to discover who I am as an athlete while consistently putting my best foot forward. I aim to push myself and my teammates to reach our full potential, striving for excellence both on and off the court. My hope is to grow not only as an athlete but also as a teammate, becoming someone who is reliable and supportive in all situations,” she described. “I understand that being a student-athlete can be challenging, but I perform best when motivated and under pressure. I believe that playing volleyball will push me to maintain high academic standards and continue to excel in the classroom and in the court. Ultimately, I aspire to be not only a great volleyball player but also an academic achiever, and I’m confident that this experience will teach me valuable lessons in responsibility and self-discipline.”
