The men's baseball team fought hard but dropped both games to the Humber Hawks on Saturday (Sept. 28) night at home.
Game 1: George Brown 9, Humber 19
The Huskies had a strong start, with Patrick Jannetta's RBI single and Brendan Nolet's two-run double giving them a 3-2 lead in the first inning. However, Humber quickly took control, and George Brown couldn't close the gap. Lukas Richardson, Marcus Herback, and Peteco Marshall added three more RBIs, but the Hawks offence was too strong. Daniel Marquez took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits and two walks in just 1.2 innings.
Game 2: George Brown 1, Humber 2
The second game was a classic pitcher's duel between George Brown's Ethan Robertson and Humber's Brandon Deans. Both starters kept the game scoreless until the seventh inning. Humber broke through with an RBI walk and a sacrifice fly. George Brown responded in the bottom of the inning, thanks to a well-executed bunt by Connor Gentes that forced a throwing error, allowing Richardson to score. Unfortunately, Nolet struck out to end the game with the tying run on second base.
Robertson was outstanding, throwing his first complete game, allowing just two runs on three hits, with seven strikeouts over 118 pitches. Despite the loss, the first-year pitcher ranks fourth in innings pitched (21.1), and sixth in ERA (2.63) and WHIP (1.31) on the season.
UP NEXT: The Huskies (3-9) return to action on Sunday (Sept. 29) against the Sheridan Bruins (2-8) at Stan Wadlow Park. Both teams are fighting for the final two playoff spots. Game times are 3pm and 5:15pm
