HUSKIES SWEPT IN HOME OPENER

HUSKIES SWEPT IN HOME OPENER

The George Brown Huskies men's baseball team fought hard, but dropped both games against the Durham Lords in their home opener on Saturday (Sept. 7) after at Vaughan Grove Sports Park.

Game 1: Durham 10, George Brown 3
The Huskies went punch for punch with the Lords in the first game. After Daniel Marquez drove in the opening run in the bottom of the first, Durham responded the next inning with a pair of runs. But, the very next inning,  Herback drove in a run off a RBI double and would later score after a throwing error after stealing third.

Unfortunately, for George Brown they weren't able to score a run the rest of the game, while Durham recorded at least a run in the next four innings.

Connor Gentes started for the Huskies. He went 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits, two walks, while striking out three batters.

Game 2: Durham 6, George Brown 5
The Lords carried the momentum into the second game. They jumped out to an early six run lead. The Huskies did respond in the bottom, thanks to RBI singles from Marquez and Marc Chamberlain.

First-year pitcher Ethan Robertson, kept the Lords offence silent the rest of the game. He threw 6.1 innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits, while striking out three batters. His outstanding performance allowed the Huskies to battle back.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lukas Richardson hit a triple to drive in two runs. He would later score on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to a single run. That was as close as the Huskies would get.

UP NEXT: The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, September 14th, when they hit the road to battle the St. Clair Saints. Game times are at 4pm and 6pm.
