LEE JOINS HUSKIES VOLLEYBALL

LEE JOINS HUSKIES VOLLEYBALL

The George Brown Huskies women's volleyball team is pleased to announce the commitment of Brianne Lee for the 2022-2023 season.

“The Huskies always look for smart and experienced athletes to join our squad. Not only does Brianne meet our immediate needs, but she brings a unique depth to her game that helps us with future planning,” head coach Daphne Choi explained. “Brianne is a quiet but definite leader as an athlete - she has a calm demeanour about her but at the same time is energetic, hard-working, and a great team player. These values ensure that Brianne will be a wonderful pack addition to the Huskies.”

The 5’4 setter and libero played for the Unity Volleyball Club for the past six years as well as the United Fierce Volleyball Club for the last three years. She also played for her high school team, St. Augustine Catholic Secondary School.

“I was ecstatic, smiling ear to ear to officially commit to being a George Brown Husky. Playing post secondary volleyball has been my dream since middle school and now that my dream has become a reality, I couldn’t be happier,” Lee explained. “The team dynamic and coach-style drew me in when I first played with the team. The girls were really welcoming and made it feel like I had been part of the team for a long time. So, I felt extremely comfortable playing with them and stepping out of my comfort zone.”

The Markham, Ont., native is enrolled in the Interior Design program this fall. She has been very successful in the classroom having made the honour roll in all four years of high school.

“I hope I can become a valuable player that can fill any position the team would need with my defensive and offensive skill sets,” Lee said. “In the classroom, I hope to gain valuable knowledge that will further my interest in interior design and continue to achieve my high academic standards.”

The women's volleyball program has been on a roll recently, making the OCAA playoffs three years in a row, including this season when they went 3-5 in a shortened campaign. Their best campaign was during 2019-20, going 11-7. They set a franchise record for wins and earned their first crossover home playoff match since the program was inaugurated in 2006-2007.

“Because Brianne comes to the Huskies with a wealth of volleyball experience and knowledge, we are excited to see what Brianne can do and how she steps up to be a leader,” Choi said. “We know from her past that she has a strong ability to work with others and put the priorities of the team ahead of her own.”
